I Told Sunset About You - EPISODE 1
// Special Admission Program, Bangkok
Others assume that this is the “future” but this is actually the present. This is during the special admission program/ interview for direct admission to faculty of Performing Arts.
Remember they mentioned that there are two ways to get into their preferred faculty? A special admission and regular admission.
During the special admission program, Teh saw Oh-aew. He is somewhat not sure if it’s really Oh-aew but it’s really Oh-aew! They both took the special admission program on that same place and day.
//Flashback to childhood days
When Teh asked Oh-aew what his dream is when he grows up, Oh-aew answered “nothing”. (It is emphasized here that Oh-aew gets bored easily and can’t commit to certain things. Take note of this character.)
But because of their childhood conflict, Oh-aew started to realize what he really wants! He was not actually greedy about it but Teh was so displeased and started throwing jabs at Oh-aew!
What made Oh-aew to be more determined is because of Teh’s hurtful words. That is why Oh-aew is so obsessed with being successful. He is so obsessed to beat Teh. Of course, Teh also has the same sentiments because he felt robbed. Rivalry begins.
//Going back to the present
Now comes the Chinese Tutorial Class. Since the result of the special admission program will be out after 2 weeks, they still took extra Chinese class to prepare for regular admission just in case they won't pass the special admission program. Why Chinese class? Well, it's a game changer that can help their score.
So Teh, together with his friends from his previous Chinese School met again, of course that includes his best friend turned rival, Oh-aew.
TRIVIA: In real life, Billkin(Teh) and PP (Oh-aew) went to the same Tutorial School. It is where they first met. They are not fond of each other at first but eventually became close friends!
Old wounds opened on the first day of their Chinese class. Triggers? Teh, peaking at Oh-eaw score (which is honestly annoying). Then, their friendly gathering turned into clash of arguments because of their conversation about drama club, chinese play, IG followers, achievements and other major blow throwbacks.
And there goes Teh again with his sharp tongue! Though he soon realized that he crossed the line, that what he said to Oh-aew was too much.
Then comes result announcement day. Teh got a special admission slot and Oh-aew did not. But one thing is for sure, they were both devastated. Teh came to realize that beating Oh-aew does not make him happy at all. Actually, it's not a realization but more of a confirmation. A confirmation that he really doesn't hate Oh-aew despite their past.
Though Teh is impulsive/sharp-tongued, I like how he took the initiative to apologize FOR EVERYTHING! Looking back to their childhood conflict, I’m convinced that it was Teh’s fault why their friendship went down the drain. Well what do you expect from a jealous kid?
Ok so Yay! They forgive each other. Then comes this conversation...
Now we see here that at some point they really thought of reaching out to each other and try to fix things, but you know how ego/pride works! Who will humble down first?
//The scene goes back again to Teh during the special admission program interview.
As the question being narrated: “Imagine if that friend of yours is now standing right in front of you, what would you say to him?”
He concluded his answer by saying:
“How's your exam doing?”
“We haven't talked for so long”
“If I could choose, I wouldn't want to have it this way”
“I hope you get in. Good luck!”
Now this scene made it clear that despite considering Oh-aew as his rival, deep inside his heart he really wanted Oh-aew to pass the special admission exam.
All the things that happened after this special admission exam, when he met Oh-aew again, is just Teh’s ego/pride spiking up.Should I say defensive mechanism? He’s acting like an asshole but deep inside he still cares about Oh-aew, he still cares about their friendship.
Why would he even think/care about Oh-aew during his interview if Oh-aew really did not matter? Right!?
Also we now see the significance of Oh-aew's failure to get through special admission.
If Oh-aew made it to the special admission program, Teh’s ego/pride will not break down. So now it makes sense why Oh-aew have to fail. Oh-aew’s failure made Teh to realize his mistakes. Oh-aew’s failure played a role for this friendship to have another chance.
Now time for them to fix things! Or maybe not :)) See you on episode 2 recap/review!
